Q: Hello Doctor, what is Lipoprotein (a) and how to reduce it. My husband is 61 years young, have diabetes and his lp is 200. All other diabetic related blood work are in on the range. What would you recommend? Thanks.

A: Lipoprotein (a), is a particle in your blood which carries cholesterol, fats and proteins. The amount your body makes is inherited from one or both parents and is determined by the genes passed on from your parent(s) when you are born. It does not change very much during your lifetime except if you are women, levels increase as the natural estrogen level declines with menopause. Diet and exercise seems to have little to no impact on the lipoprotein (a) level.

Q: Is there an herb for arthritis?

Q: Hi Dr Bob. I’ve been listening to your YouVersion devotionals. I was hoping you could address something that affects my colleagues and I. I work in emergency services. Because emergencies never have an off time, of course, emergency services are manned around the clock. I currently work night shifts. Many others work rotating shifts on days 2-4 weeks, on nights 2-4 weeks. What’s the best way to stay healthy working nights or rotating shifts?
